Y4, Walliams Class

Hello and welcome to Walliams Class!

Myself, Miss Buckley and Miss Deryaoglu are incredibly excited to welcome you into Year 4 and cannot wait to share with you the plans we have for this year. There are plenty of trips and exciting topics coming up that we are sure you will enjoy.

Curriculum:

Topics:

Autumn 1 – I am Warrior: The Romans and their impact on Britain.

Autumn 2 – Misty Mountain Sierra: The water cycle, flooding and understanding where water comes from.

Spring 1 – Potions: States of Matter.

Spring 2 – Traders and Raiders: Anglo- Saxons and Viking invasions from Scandinavia.

Summer 1 – Blue Abyss: Locating seas and Oceans of the world and understanding living things and their habitats.

Summer 2 – Bottoms, Burps and Bile: Animals including humans; understanding human and animal digestive systems.

Please take a look at the detailed curriculum map to look for coverage of academic and creative subjects across the term.

Could you please ensure that all school uniform, including P.E. kit is clearly labelled so that missing items can make their way back to your child. The children will have Swimming every MONDAY AFTERNOON for the duration of the Autumn term. Please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in for this day.

Homework:

Homework will be given out every Friday to be checked the following Wednesday. Failure to complete or present homework on the due date will result in your child completing it in their break times at school. In Year 4 it is expected that all children read for at least 15 minutes every evening to an adult. We also accept an adult reading to their child during this time if you wish. This reading time must be recorded in their reading records to be checked weekly at school. Children will also be sent home with weekly times tables and spellings to be tested every Wednesday. Please ensure these are being practised at home.

Communication:

If there is anything you would like to ask me about in regards to your child please do not hesitate to catch me at the end of the day to arrange an appointment. Alternatively, you may contact the office to arrange an appointment this way.

Kind regards,

Miss Barrett
