Admissions to John Burns Primary School

Wandsworth Borough Council is the admission authority for John Burns Primary School.

To find up to date information about the school's admissions arrangements and how to apply, either as part of the normal intake or during the school year, please use this link to the Wandsworth Borough Council website.

There is no set catchment area and it changes dependent on the applications received for that particular year.

If there is oversubscription within any criteria, priority is given according to the distance from the pupil’s permanent home address to the school.

Distance is measured by a straight line from the address point of the pupil’s house, as set by Ordnance Survey, to the main school gate. You can find out how far you are from the school on the Wandsworth Borough Council website.

Admission to Reception - September 2020 entry

We currently offer 30 places in our Reception class.

Children are eligible for Reception in the September of the school year in which they turn five years old (the school year runs from 1st September to 31st August).

Reception admissions are arranged by the London Borough of Wandsworth Local Education Authority. Please click here to read the 'Choosing a Wandsworth School' booklet for full information about the admissions process.

Having a place in Nursery does not guarantee a place in our Reception class at school.
Full details on admission to Reception, along with the timetable for applications, can be found on the Wandsworth Council website.

Notification of outcomes for Admission to Reception for September 2020

If you applied online you will be emailed the outcome of your application on the evening of 16th April 2020 from the London eAdmissions Team.

You will also be sent a follow-up notification email from Wandsworth Council if it was not been possible to offer your first preference school. This will provide detailed information about the outcome of your application and what do next.

If you applied on a paper form, you will be sent an outcome letter by first class mail on 16th April 2020.

Admission to Nursery

There are 26 children in the Nursery at any one time.

A full-time place is between 9:00am and 3:15pm Monday to Friday. A part-time place will be either 9:00am Monday - 11:30am on Wednesday or 12:30pm Wednesday to Friday 3:15pm. We have found this two and a half day system works very well for the part time children.

We follow the criteria as set out in the booklet “Starting School in Wandsworth”. As stipulated by Wandsworth Local Education Authority, there is no automatic transfer from Nursery to Reception and parents must apply for a Reception place.

Admissions to Year 1 - Year 6

As with Reception admissions, Wandsworth Council co-ordinates requests for the transfer to a new school across the Borough.

Prospective parents who have moved into the area are invited to contact the school office to arrange a visit to find out more about us. If parents wish to apply for a place they must contact Pupil Services at Wandsworth Council and submit their application form directly to them.

The following applications will be treated as in-year admissions:

  • applications after 1st September 2020 for admission to Reception

  • all applications for admission to Years 1 to 6

Applications must be made to Wandsworth Borough Council directly. Where there are more applications than places available, each application will be ranked in accordance with the published oversubscription criteria for the School.

School Tours

We always welcome visits from prospective parents, whether in our Early Years classes at the start of your child’s school career, or at other points in their primary life.

Please contact the school directly in the first instance to see if we have any spaces available in your required year group and to arrange a visit.

During the tour you will have the opportunity to visit each class and see the children in action, if you would like to bring your child with you, they would be most welcome - after all, they are the VIPs!

Please phone the School Office on 020 7228 3857 to make further enquiries and schedule a school tour.
