Y2, Grey Class

A big 'Welcome to Grey Class' from Mr Bowman and Mrs Clayton! We are very excited about the fantastic curriculum which lies ahead of us for the start of the Autumn Term which will delve us deep into the midst of a scented garden!

Titled Scented Garden the topic is a science driven stop which gives us the opportunity to really get to grips with how plants grow, how they use their seeds, and carry out lots of investigations in particular finding out if seeds can grow anywhere. It gives us chance to study one of our favourite books Jack and the Beanstalk and through this text we will be exploring all the grammatical features of writing we need to cover in the year 2 curriculum. In maths we will begin by working on place value, before moving on to look at the understanding around the four operations. As well as Jack and the Beanstalk we will be jumping off topic slightly to read the fantastic Traction Man, written by our class author Mini Grey. In art sessions we will be looking at how Monet created his paintings and in geography we will be looking at plants grow in our local environment and around the world. And finally, we are very excited at being part of the Wandsworth Singing Project which will begin at the start of this half term.

Moving away from the curriculum, our PE days are Monday and Wednesday so we would recommend the children bring their PE kit into school on a Monday and take it home on a Friday. Homework will be set on a Friday and will consist of a Maths or English task, alongside this we will be setting daily  stage reading, weekly times table practice, and weekly spellings.

As we move through the year if there is anything at all we can help you with, or any concerns you have please feel free to catch us at the beginning or end of the day!

Best wishes

Mr Bowman and Mrs Clayton (Year 2 Team)
